What was life like in 1907?

From the Prairies of Canada, the following vegetables, seeds and oils were growing each year. Newspapers would run an ad, “Pickers Needed 10,000 pickers needed in Ontario.”

Two weeks later, another ad would appears, stating: Ontario needs 20,000 more pickers for the growing season.” Many men walked for miles to get a job only to be told to return in three weeks, or that all the jobs were taken. Turned away. Penniless. Miles from any family. It was a hard life.
